A maximum of 10-year-old vehicles can be imported into Guatemala.

Left-Hand Drive Vehicles

Import of left-hand drive vehicles is allowed in the country.

Inspection

No specific inspection on the import of used vehicles is required.

Import Duties and Taxes on Used Cars in Guatemala

The importers have to pay taxes and duties on used vehicles imported to Guatemala. The tax and duty range from 1% to 15% of CIF value plus 12% VAT. 

An exemption from tax is given to diplomats.

Documents Required for Import of Vehicle in Guatemala

  • Bill of Lading  (notarized by Guatemalan Consulate at origin)

  • Original certificate of Title and Registration (notarized by Guatemalan Consulate at origin)

  • NIT number and passport

  • Vehicle condition report

  • Registration card copy

  • Purchase Invoice (notarized by Guatemalan Consulate at origin)
